Human Era

Release Date: June 9, 2015

I have said it before and will say it again here, Frontiers Music are THE BEST at reuniting B and C level bands from the late eighties/early nineties and breathing new, and better, life into them. Hardline, House of Lords, Harem Scarem, and Trixter immediately come to mind. Trixter was a good band that came out at the wrong time and their last album New Audio Machine proved that their good times had plenty of roll left. Human Era continues the party with high energy rock and roll without all the mega-production and mega-hair of their heyday.

There are a number of standout tunes here for fans of bands like KISS, early Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and LA Guns. “Not Like All The Rest” is probably the best example, with arena clear guitar work, stellar vocal work, and a catchy as hell rhythm that makes this song perfect for radio (which, unfortunately, doesn’t play good rock music anymore). The ballad “Good Times Now” is another highlight, with a New Jersey (the state) edge that will surely make Jon or Bruce proud.

It’s a bit formulaic (soft vocals that explode into a big chorus, semi-acoustic backdrop, and a big summer “Whoa oh oh oh oh” towards the end of the song)  but I love the formula! Other highlights include the mid-tempo anthem “Human Era,” which contemplates relationships made, and strengthened, before the advent of the internet, and the big anthem “Every Second Counts.”

Overall, I really dig this album. It’s a perfect album for driving fast in the sunshine with the top down because it’s anthemic, pristinely produced, and full of positive vibes that remind the listener that no matter how bad things get, life is still very much worth living. Now, get off the internet and go join the party!
