Morphine Dreams (Single)
Release Date: Dec 24, 2016
There’s something about delicate haunting music that has always resonated extremely with me. Be it Over the Rhine’s haunting “Latter Days”, Elliott Smith or Sigur Rós I’ve been drawn to music that tears at your insides. Flower Face’s new track “Morphine Dreams” mines the same vein of delicate emotional destruction. It’s a powerful tear-jerker that lays bare singer Ruby McKinnon’s post-cancer surgery mental state. There’s a moment in the chorus that makes me think of “Science Fiction/Double Feature” but that almost feels sacrilegious when considering the content here. If you are familiar with Flower Face’s work, then you would know what to expect here. If not, a melding of the three artists mentioned in the second sentence here would be a pretty solid starting point.
On a positive note, Ruby is doing better and is using this song for good. 100% of the proceeds from this song will go to the childhood cancer foundation (www.childhoodcancer.ca). This is definitely something worth checking out.
