Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze, etc.) is probably one of the most surprising “comebacks” of the last decade. He has re-emerged with various supergroups (California Breed, Black Country Communion) and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple, reminding us all just how important he is in Rock and Roll history. To be honest, there is a large contingent of music lovers that needed a reminder. Myself included. Resonate does just that and does it under his own moniker for the 14th time.

Resonate is like a greatest hits full of new songs. It’s not that every song is so much a “greatest hit” as much as it is that it really runs the musical gamut of Hughes career. You’ll find Hard Rock with strong melodies, like on “Let It Shine” and “God of Money,” but you’ll also find straightforward Rockers that disguise the melody a bit more, like the stomping “My Town” (my personal favorite tune here) and “Stumble and Go.” The bluesy and semi-acoustic “Long Time Gone” is the highlight of Resonate in my opinion, though. It’s rolling organs, acoustic first third, funky bass, and guitar bridge, and deep, bluesy riffing is about as cool as they come. Glenn Hughes has long been one of the kings of cool and this song perfectly exemplifies it, taking the album out on it’s highest note.

Overall, this is a fun romp through Glenn Hughes musical brain. Any fan of any sort of Classic Rock will enjoy this one. It has all the credibility of the man’s stature in Rock and Roll and a modern production style that makes it feel fresh and new. Resonate unquestionably ranks among Glenn Hughes best work.
