Supagroup has been building a following for some time now. I have always felt that this was a band searching for a voice. Their last effort came across like a cross between Tesla and Faster Pussycat and I was left wondering why this and why now? New Orleans' natives sons have been tearing up the road in support of big name acts, bringing gritty rock to the masses. With "Fire For Hire" Supagroup finally finds their niche.

While the MTV masses may not be ready for Supagroup, a certain breed of music fan is. Those of us who grew up on our parents' record collections may find "Fire For Hire" to be a cross between a nostalgic trip through childhood and a drunken party. Supagroup has created an album full of high octane, 70's inspired, blues flavored rock. Think The Black Crowes with Bon Scott on vocals and Ted Nugent on guitar. Yeah, that's Supagroup.

There are very few bands who still do traditional, blues inspired rock well. Those who do don't tend to last. The Four Horsemen. White Trash. These bands made a quick, explosive flash and then disappeared. Supagroup has stayed the course and finally played their ace. "What's Your Problem Now?" is a ripping piece of rock that could turn a dull night at the bar into a full fledged riot. "Long Live Rock" and "Fire For Hire" keep up the same vibe.

Supagroup is bringing classic rock into the now with their devil may care, party attitude and muscular riffs in the tradition of the rock greats of yesteryear. "Fire For Hire" shows a band that has matured, found their place, and has made their best album to date. If you've heard Supagroup in the past, it's time to check them out again. It may have taken some time to perfect the formula, but Supagroup is a streamlined unit ready to tear the house down.
