AM Taxi

We Don't Stand a Chance

Virgin Records

From Chicago, Il. hails the less than two year old band AM Taxi. Much like Fall Out Boy, AM Taxi is a blend of a lot of different things but if you set your ears on hearing a mashup of early (read as “good”) Bruce Springsteen, Soul Aslyum, and Dropkick Murphy’s newer material then you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you hear.

I freely and excitedly admit that I’m a huge fan of anthems. I love, high energy songs that explode when they hit the chorus and AM Taxi sound like seasoned veterans in that department. Songs like “Dead End Street,” “Thanner Boyle Vs. the 7th Grade,” and “Fed Up” are incredibly hook heavy anthems that make you feel like you can beat anything life throws at you. On the rawer side of that equation is the quirky “Shake, Rattle, and Stall” and the pissed off  unch of “The Mistake.” Together they balance out the poppier side of the band without losing the anthemic edge that makes this band so awesome.

It’s been awhile since a new band has really blown my socks off. Honestly, with a name like AM Taxi (AM being short for American), I highly doubted this would be the band to do it. I couldn’t have been more wrong. We Don’t Stand a Chance is about as amazing as debut albums come.

Bottom Line: Balls out Rock and Roll that will appeal to a varied audience of schizophrenic music lovers (like me).
